Lesson Plan to use with Zoom videoconferencing
Goal: to learn about the impact of the coronavirus on our lives
Warm-up (10 minutes): Ask student what they know about the coronavirus.
Word study (20 minutes): Download and share the Words and Definitions worksheet on screen. Complete the vocab matching and fill-in-the-blank activities to prepare for reading.
Reading (30 minutes): Download and share the News Article on screen. First look at the headline and subheads. Ask: what does student think story will be about? Ask student to read aloud two paragraphs at a time, stopping to check comprehension, using questions from Teacher Guide. Discuss article with questions from teacher’s guide.
Listening & Speaking (30 minutes): Download and share Everyday Conversations on screen. Listen to Track 5
to answer worksheet questions under 1A & B.
Listen to Track 6 to answer questions under 1C.
Role play conversations under 4B and 4C. Listen to
to complete exercises under 5.
Writing (20 minutes): Stop sharing your screen. Ask student to start sharing his or her whiteboard through Zoom. Ask the student to make a list of precautions they should take to prevent the coronavirus. Ask student to turn the list into a paragraph with a topic sentence and supporting details.
Wrap-up (10 minutes): Download and share Health word search on screen and have student annotate or assign as homework.
