Goal: Students will learn vocabulary associated with going to the doctor.
Warm-up: (10 minutes): Ask students how their daily routines have changed with restrictions because of the coronavirus. Ask how they’re coping with stress.
Word Study: (15 minutes): Download and share the Word Study on your screen. Complete the fill-in-the-blank and pronunciation activities to prepare for reading.
Reading: (30 minutes): Download and share the How to Stop Touching Your Face story on your screen. Ask the student to read each section, stopping to check comprehension, using questions at bottom of article.
Download and share the Read RX label worksheet on screen. Review components of a prescription label. Answer the true/false questions.
Listening: (30 minutes): Watch this YouTube video of someone going to the doctor’s office. Ask your student to listen for the patient’s symptoms and the doctor’s diagnosis. Ask your student to summarize the visit in his/her own words.
As another listening activity, ask your student share their screen and use the whiteboard to type while you dictate the following sentences.
Maria has felt sick for three days.
She has had trouble breathing.
She feels tired all day.
She took her temperature.
She had a fever of 101 degrees.
She took Tylenol for her fever.
She hasn’t felt like eating much.
Last week, one of her coworkers went home sick.

Writing: (15 minutes) Download and share the Staying Healthy Directed Dialogue. Your student can annotate the worksheet.
Wrap up: (10 minutes) Download and complete the Word Search or Crossword Puzzle on screen or email to student as homework.
